HANOI, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Flooding killed 66 people, left seven missing and
injured 38 in Vietnam's central region from Oct. 29 to Nov. 6.
Most of the victims were reported in the provinces of Phu Yen, Binh Dinh,
Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, according to the Central Steering
Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention on Wednesday.
The floods also damaged some 94,400 houses, submerged over 18,300 hectares
of paddy rice, and inundated many irrigation works.
Natural disasters, including typhoons and hails, killed 339 people, left
274 people missing and injured 2,065 others in Vietnam in 2006. The estimated
losses totaled 18.6 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 1.2 billion U.S. dollars)
in the year.
