Special Report: 6th City Sports Games

WUHAN, Central China, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Yang Zhe of Jinan, Shandong Province claimed the men's 105kg category gold at the 6th Chinese City Games here on Saturday.

Yang, 16, a hot favorite of the event after leading the preliminary competition in March, combined lifts of 180kg in the snatch with 203kg in the clean and jerk to finish 383kg.

"My performance in the snatch exceeded my expectation," said Yang. "But 180kg in the jerk is just so so."

"My personal best is 384kg, with 178kg in the snatch and 206kg in the jerk." Yang added.

Yang took an advantage in the snatch as he hoisted 180kg, 15kg more than Guan Xijia of Beijing Shunyi, who finished second in the snatch.

The 16-year-old asked for 212kg in his last attempt in the jerk, but failed.

Li Zongyi of Dalian, Liaoning Province took the silver at 368kg.

Guan challenged 202kg in the last attempt to throw the burden to his closest opponent, but failed, finishing his debut at the City Games at 366kg to take the bronze.

"I am confident that I can win the National Championships in 2009." Yang said.
