WUHAN, Central China, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Macao rowing team never expected to win any medals at the ongoing Chinese City Games but to learn from others, coach Leong Mok Soi told Xinhua here on Thursday.
Macao rowing team sent two rowers Lei Chi Fong and Chan Ka Ming to compete at the City Games.
Lei and Chan, both 16, are still high school students. They only take two to three hours' training after school. Though trailing all the way during the competition, they managed to finish the race.
Lei and Chan finished 19th and 20th in men's 8km single sculls on Wednesday.
"We can get quick improvement only by attending more and more tourneys," said Leong. "But we don't have any pressure for medals, we came here to enjoy the Games and to learn from others. And when we go back to Macao, we can set a more concrete and realistic goal."
Macao's rowing sport took shape in 2003. The 2005 Eastern Asian Games saw their debut.
"I used to be a civil servant rather than a professional athlete and I never took part in any formal competitions. Out of love for water sports, we are still engaged in it," added Leong.
