MOSCOW, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- A short-range anti-missile system was
successfully launched from the Sary-Shagan weapons range of Russian Strategic
Missile Troops in Kazakhstan, Russian news agencies reported on Tuesday.
"The main purpose of the launch was to check the performance parameters of
the anti-missile and prolong its service life," head of the service Col.
Alexander Vovk was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.
The anti-missile system was fired at a hypothetical target at 11:00 a.m.,
Moscow time (0800 GMT), Vovk said.
"The effectiveness of the restored and upgraded firing equipment and
measuring tools of the range was also evaluated," he said.
