JAKARTA, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
said Monday he would bring the issue of corruption at the ASEAN summit, which
will be held in November in Singapore.
The president made the statement when he met with Todung Mulya Lubis,
chairman of the Indonesian International Transparency at the state palace on
Monday.
Lubis said that the non-organization made the suggestion to the president
to raise the issue during the meeting and it was positively responded by the
president.
"The president has given strong support and promised to raise the issue of
anti-corruption at the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit in
Singapore in November," said Lubis after the meeting.
He said that the suggestion could result in an ASEAN convention against
corruption, as some other regions have already had it.
Lubis said that his organization also suggested President Susilo build an
international cooperation in combating corruption.
Since President Susilo took office in 2004, scores of top officials have
been jailed and undergone legal process for corruption charge.
ASEAN countries comprise Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei
Darussalam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar and Vietnam.
