Diarrhea claims 2 more in Nepal

    KATHMANDU, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two more persons have died of cholera that has spread in southern Nepal's districts, local leading media group's website eKantipur reported on Monday.

    The two dead, who died on Sunday, were identified as Arjun Bahadur Shrestha, 70 of the Kapilvastu, some 200 km west of capital Kathmandu, and Jukai Ram, 70, of Barahaibijpur in Saptari district, some 190 southeast of Kathmandu. As a result, the death toll has climbed to 11 and 26 in Kapilvastu and Saptari districts respectively.

    Local residents said the number of affected has been mounting day after day, though the district health office said that the district of Saptari has come out of the danger.

    Meanwhile, around 100 persons have been affected in Banke district, some 365 km west of Kathmandu.

    Although diarrhea continues to spread in several districts in Nepal, Nepali epidemiologists and officials said it has not taken the dimension of concentrated epidemic.
