BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- "Juno," the story of
an American teenager dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, won the best film
award at the Rome Film Festival, according to media reports Sunday.
Ellen Page ("Hard Candy") stars in the title role as
Juno MacGuff, a precocious Minnesota schoolgirl facing an unwelcome pregnancy
with supportive parents and friends.
Co-starring Jennifer Garner and Jason Batemen, the
movie was directed by 30-year-old Canadian-born Jason Reitman, best known for
his 2005 satirical comedy "Thank You For Smoking," which won a string of awards
and was nominated for two Golden Globes.
Critics praised the performance by Page as Juno,
the quick-witted young woman plunged into adulthood who tries to find a suitable
set of parents to adopt her unborn child.
"The film hit the members of the jury with emotion,"
organizers said.
The festival's jury, chaired this year by Bosnian
director Danis Tanovic, is made up of 50 movie-goers.
In addition, Chinese actress Jiang Wenli took home
the festival's best actress award with her performance in "And the Spring
Comes."
Actor Rade Serbedzija was also recognized for his
work in the Canadian-Greek film "Fugitive Pieces."
