WUHAN, Central China, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Zuo Mengxia of Qingdao team claimed the gold medal in the women's 53kg weightlifting at the Chinese City Games here on Friday.

Last year, the 20-year-old girl cried sadly when she settled with the silver medal in the World Junior Weightlifting Championships, vowing to win a gold medal in the future.

"It is the first time to win a gold medal after the junior worlds, so I will cherish this gold medal even more," Zuo told the press.

Zuo, led throughout the jerk event with ease and successfully lifted 122kg in her last attempt.

Zuo combined lifts of 95kg in the snatch with 122kg in the clean and jerk to finish with 217kg.

"Actually I was not satisfied with the result today. I was not in a good physical condition because I lost some power while losing weight before the competition," said Zuo.

"My next goal is wining a gold medal in the National Games in 2009."

Chen Xiaoting, 16, from Xiamen team, won the silver with a total of 214kg and Peng Hui of Ningbo got the bronze on 209kg.

"I hope I can challenge Zuo again in the National Games and win the gold medal," said Chen.
