RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Health Minister Jose Gomes
Temporao warned on Monday that the serotype four virus of dengue fever will get
to Brazil sooner or later.
Temporao said dengue type four will come, and it is just a matter of when,
adding that the spread of the disease is helped by transport facilities and
foreign trade.
"With airplane traveling, international trade, tourism, it is almost
impossible to prevent a person infected with the type-four virus from entering
Brazil," he said, noting that dengue type four had occurred in neighboring
countries, such as Venezuela.
The other three types of dengue fever have already been detected in Brazil.
Over 90 percent of dengue fever cases are caused by the type-three virus.
The minister warned a possible outbreak of another type of virus of the
disease next year.
Last week, Temporao kicked off a national campaign to battle dengue fever
in Brazil. He said the country faces another outbreak of the disease, which is
common during the rainy season.
The campaign targets the entire country, especially Rio de Janeiro, one of
Brazil's main tourist destinations.
