BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- A biopic of the late
Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is being planned by Hollywood studio Universal,
with Courtney Love, Cobain's widow serving as the executive producer, it was
reported Sunday.
Variety magazine reported that the studio has
acquired the rights to a biography of Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994 at
the age of 27 near the height of his grunge-rock band's success.
Many of the details of the project are still in the
early stages. But it is reported that "Troy" screenwriter David Benioff has
signed on to write the screenplay, which will be based on the Charles Cross
book, "Heavier than Heaven," which detailed the rise and fall of the late
rocker.
Nirvana helped popularize grunge rock in the early
1990s, and the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is often termed the anthem for a
generation. Cobain struggled with drug addiction and the pressures of fame, and
Love's role in his death has been controversial.
