STOCKHOLM, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Danish authorities have released hundreds of young protesters detained Saturday during clashes with Copenhagen police, news reports reaching here Sunday said.
Around 3,000 young demonstrators, who were demanding a new youth center, clashed with the police Saturday when they tried to climb over police vehicles to occupy a building.
Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd and arrested more than 400, including scores of foreign nationals. No injuries were reported, reports quoted police as saying.
In 2000, the authorities of Copenhagen sold the Youth House, which left-wing activists had used as a base since 1982, to a religious group. The dispute over the youth center has been simmering ever since.
In March this year, the young squatters were evicted from the site, leading to violent street clashes.
