KIEV, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Elections in Ukraine have been declared valid, with the voter turnout exceeding 62 percent, Vladimir Shapoval, head of the Central Electoral Commission, said at a press conference in Kiev on Monday.

The Yulia Timoshenko Bloc is in the lead with 33.3 percent of votes after the processing of 50 percent of protocols of the district commissions. The difference with the party of Regions is a little less than 3 percent. After the processing of 50 percent of ballot papers, the Party of Regions has won 30.66 percent of votes, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

According to reports, Our Ukraine-Popular Self-Defense (15.55 percent), the Litvin Bloc (5.09 percent), the Communist Party of Ukraine (4.18 percent) and the Socialist Party (3.16 percent) are also qualified for the Supreme Rada.

The Yulia Timoshenko Bloc got the majority of votes in 16 regions, and the Party of Regions -- in ten regions. The pro-presidential Our Ukraine-Popular Self-Defense Bloc got the majority of votes only in the Transcarpathian Region. "The figures are not yet final, but the trend is obvious," Shapoval was quoted by Itar-Tass as saying.
