(ANSA) - Florence, September 20 - Tuscan fashion exports in 2006 amounted to more than eight billion 700 million euros, a 3.4% increase compared to 2005.

According to confirmed data released by Toscana Promozione, Tuscan exports within the fashion industry add up to more than 19% of Italy's total.

Tuscan fashion has enjoyed particular success in Russia over the past few years, with exports reaching staggering figures - a 36.1% jump since 2005.

The Russian market has experienced an average annual increase of 15.6% since 2003.

Tuscany currently claims fifth place when it comes to fashion exports to Russia. Not a surprising figure considering that Tuscany hosts 22% of Italy s fashion companies with more than 21,500 firms and 98,700 employees working within the sector.

In 2005, the sector grossed over 18 billion euros; textiles are the most productive sector with more than 6,750 companies, followed by the clothing sector (5,675 companies), leather, shoes, gold and jewelry.
