(ANSA) - Genoa, September 20 - British Airways will launch a daily flight between the northern Italian city Genoa and London Gatwick Airport as of April 4, 2008, British Airways and the Genoa Airport authority said in a statement.

The new route will be serviced on a Boeing 737 and will offer two classes: Club Europe, the business class on the European routes, and Euro Traveller, the economy class.

Fares begin from 50 euro ($69.9) for a one-way ticket in economy class, including taxes and surcharges.

The decision to launch the service was in response to the growing passenger demand in the region and the success of cruises in the Mediterranean, which led to a rise in the potential number of passengers departing from the port of Genoa, the statement said.

According to sector sources, Irish low-cost company Ryanair has rescheduled its London Stansted-Genoa flight to seasonal from running all year round.
