Special report: Internal situation in Palestine
GAZA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on Saturday accused Islamic Hamas movement of systematically targeting his party in the Gaza Strip.
"The PFLP leaders there came under ugly offensive and our radio station was stormed, its equipment were confiscated and still closed down," Abdel Rahim Malouh, PFLP deputy secretary general, told reporters.
In recent weeks, several Hamas leaders have strongly slammed Gaza-based PFLP leaders for criticizing Hamas' violent takeover of the strip from forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas in June.
Hamas and Abbas' Fatah movement suspended their political partnership following the takeover and Abbas appointed a new government after firing a short-lived coalition with Hamas.
Hamas imposed control on Gaza while Fatah increased crackdown on Hamas in the West Bank, widening political division between the two territories.
Malouh urged Hamas to "retreat back to the partnership with Fatah and President Abbas," revealing efforts by his movement to end the crisis.
He, however, said he was sorry that the current bids to restore dialogue "did not lead to any result since the two sides still lack the vision to handle the military takeover by Hamas in Gaza."
