SINGAPORE, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore Wednesday announced it will
provide public access to information on terrorism and political violence.
It came after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to
formulate a strategic partnership to preserve, archive and make accessible rare
print and non-print information on international political violence and
terrorism between National Library Board (NLB), S. Rajaratnam School of
International Studies (RSIS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
As a part of the collaboration, NLB will provide public access to
non-sensitive or desensitized information on political violence and terrorism,
which will be in either print or electronic format through its libraries and
digital channels, according to a joint statement issued by the three parties.
The information to be made available would contain information such as the
dates of occurrences of political violence and acts of terrorism, the statement
said.
"RSIS have found our collaboration with NLB to be very beneficial in
leveraging on their archival know-how, their physical resources and digital
channels. It is also in the wider context of collaboration that we share a
common objective of promoting public education in political violence and
terrorism to enable the public to make sense of the current global developments
in this area," said assistant professor John Harrison of RSIS.
This collaboration also includes joint efforts in public education
initiatives on terrorism informatics and an exchange program to train terrorism
analysts in NLB.
