BEIJING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- China Radio International (CRI) has begun
providing mobile phone TV services along with China Mobile, the country's
largest wireless service operator.
Subscribers can watch news, plays, music, movies and other TV programs with
their mobile phones starting Aug. 30.
The mobile broadcast also features programs about the Beijing Olympic Games
from the Beijing TV Station.
Since April, the nation's multi-language broadcaster has collaborated with
China Unicom, the country's second largest mobile carrier, on such services,
according to the China Business News.
China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has granted the
country's third national mobile phone TV license to the CRI. The other two went
to Shanghai Media Group and CCTV. Both have cooperated with China Mobile.
So far, 220 mobile phone operators worldwide has launched mobile video
services and the Asian-Pacific region would be a huge market for mobile phone
TV, said Li Yue, vice president of China Mobile.
