BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- German carmaker
Volkswagen and U.S. computer company Apple are discussing the possibility of
producing a car together.
"The two companies are in the early stages of talks,"
a VW spokesman told German magazine Capital.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Volkswagen
CEO Martin Winterkorn met several days ago in California to discuss the
potential cooperation. The development of a so-called "iCar" could follow, the
magazine said.
Through market analysis, experts estimate that a
compact car upgraded with Apple products would be of great interest to young
target groups, Capital said.
Volkswagen of America and Apple have hooked up
before. In 2003, new Beetle buyers in the United States were given a
complimentary Apple iPod as part of a "Pods Unite" promotion.
