LIMA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- A 5.5-magnitude aftershock hit southern Peru again on Saturday, the Peru Geophysics Institute said on Sunday.
The epicenter was located in the Pacific area some 65 km west of the city of Pisco, Ica department, and the focus was some 33 km deep, the institute said.
Strong tremors could be felt in parts of the Ica department and capital Lima. There were no reports of casualties.
An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted the same region on Friday.
The institute said 489 aftershocks have been recorded in southern Peru after a devastating magnitude 7.9 quake rocked the same region on Wednesday, killing more than 500 people, injuring over 1,000 others and displacing tens of thousands.
