BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Australian cyclists dominated
the track by winning gold and silver medal of the men's time trial at the "2007
Good Luck Beijing" International Road Cycling Tournament here on Sunday.
Cadel Evans, the 2007 Tour de France runner-up,
clocked 32 minutes and 28 seconds 92 to take the gold, while his teammate
Michael Rogers snatched the silver in 32:53.66.
"Yesterday, Italian team cooperated well and
controlled the race, but time trial was different, and I did well today," said
Evans.
Italian cyclists dominated the men's road race as
they pocketed both the gold and bronze medals, while Evans only finished fifth
and refused to be interviewed after the race on Saturday.
"The weather was hot and humid. This is my first time
to come to China, everything here for me was new, I need time to adjust to it, "
added Evans.
When being asked his next target after winning in the
Beijing Olympic Games' cycling route, the Australian did not hide his ambition
towards Olympic gold.
"I hope I could stand in the same spot next year in
the Beijing Olympics. After the Tour de France, I will come to Beijing," added
Evans.
The bronze medal went to Alexandr Dyachenko of
Kazakhstan in 33: 27.52.
Chinese Olympic hopeful Ma Haijun finished fifth,
getting the best result of the Chinese team of the day.
"Before the race, I just trained for only two weeks.
I felt a bit tired after yesterday's and need to gain more energy," said Ma, who
will come to Switzerland to be trained by UCI cycling camp nest week.
As an official event on this year's UCI calendar and
one of " Good Luck Beijing" test events, the race was sponsored by the
Organizing Committee of "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Road Cycling
Invitational Race and followed UCI's competition rules.
The event simply includes the men's road group and
the men's road individual time trial. Each team can have six entries to the road
