Special report: 24th Universiade Bangkok 2007
BANGKOK, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Title favorites Lithuania came from behind to
crush Serbia 85-66 to take the men's basketball title at the 24th Universiade
here on Saturday.
Serbia stunned Lithuania in the opening period with a huge lead of 27-15,
but the latter rallied to tie the score on 42-42 at the halftime. The
Lithuanians totally controled the second half, beating the Serbs 19-14 in the
third period and 24-10 in the fourth.
Rolandas Alijevas, Jonas Maciulis and Steponas Babrauskas contributed an
aggregate 54 points to Lithuania, 19, 18 and 17 respectively.
A 52 field goal percentage and 11 more rebounds ensured the winfor
Lithuania.
Vladan Vukosauyevie scored the game high of 21 points for Serbia. Strahinja
Milosevic and Ivan Paunic added 15 and 13 points respectively. But other Serbian
players' poor performances broke their gold hope. Their field goal percentage
stood at 43, not too bad but not enough for a win.
In the bronze medal match, Canada almost collapsed in the first period, but
rallied from the second to the last to beat Japan 90-84.
