LIMA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- A rescue helicopter fully loaded with food and medicine fell down in quake-hit southern Peru, but all seven people on board were only slightly injured, local media reported on Friday.
The Peruvian Navy helicopter was ferrying food and other aid from Lima to the city of Ica when it lost control and fell on the roof of an uninhabited house upon arriving at its destination.
The city of Ica, some 400 km from Lima, is the worst-hit region from a 7.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked the country on Wednesday. The quake has killed 510, injured some 1,610 and displaced tens of thousands.
Peru receives $40 mln in international aid for quake relief
LIMA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Peru has received international humanitarian aid worth some 40 million U.S. dollars after Wednesday's tragic earthquake hit the country, an official from the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI)'s said on Friday.
The aid package includes five million dollars in cash and humanitarian assistance such as food and tents, plus 30 million dollars offered by the United Nations, to be used to create a fund to help the reconstruction of the most-affected regions, according to APCI's director Agustin Haya de la Torre. President: Peru's quake-hit region suffers from lack of food, water
LIMA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Food and water shortages are critically affecting the quake-hit region in Peru, President Alan Garcia said in the southern city of Pisco on Friday.
Garcia assured the quake-inflicted victims that food and water would be soon delivered to the region and fairly distributed. full Story
