BEIJING, July 31 -- Chinese film "I Am Angel," with a
positive message on AIDS orphans, garnered the prize for the Best Foreign
Language Drama at the just concluded Action on Film International Film Festival.
The honor marked Chinese films' award debut at the
American film fest, Shanghai's Xinmin Evening News reported.
About 200 works submitted by filmmakers worldwide
entered competitions at the festival, held in Long Beach, California, from July
27 to 29.
"I Am Angel," brought to the festival by Shanghai
Film Art Academy, tells the touching story of an urban university graduate who
volunteers as a teacher for isolated AIDS orphans in a rural village.
It stars veteran Chinese actor Sun Haiying, who was
first moved by the screenplay and had promised to halve his payment as a
contribution to the film.
Chinese movie-goers are expected to catch the film on
this year's World AIDS Day on December 1.
