Gugl-Meeting invites Liu Xiang to contest Robles

    VIENNA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The organizer of Gugl-Meeting had invited Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang, Olympic gold medallist and world record holder in the 110m hurdles, to attend this Austrian traditional event on September in Linz, according to the report of local media on Wednesday.

    The organizer said that many big athletic stars started at the Gugl-Meeting, including Carl Lewis, Colin Jackson, Allen Johnson, Marion Jones, Ivan Pedroso, Maria Mutola, Javier Sotomayor and many more in the history, and Liu Xiang would also be one super star of them in the 20th Gugl-Meeting this year.

    The manager of Gugl-Meeting, Harald Edletzberger said that he had talked with Liu Xiang's manager, and "he expressed interest in this event."

    We expected the contest between Liu and Cuban Dayron Robles, world No. 2, who had decided to attend the event, said the organizer, adding that In the past, the Gugl-Meeting was famous for 100m sprints and excellent long jumps, but this time with Liu and Robles, 110m hurdling would also become the focus.

    The Gugl-Meeting, founded in 1988, is the largest one-day athletics meeting in Austria and organized every year in the City of Linz. The Gugl-Meeting was the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Grand Prix meeting from 1994 onwards and has changed to European Athletic Association (EAA) Premium Status in 2006.
