BUDAPEST, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian Foreign Minister Kinga Goncz had not been targeted in a bombing attempt during her visit in Afghanistan contrary to earlier statements from the Foreign Ministry, ministry spokesman Gyorgy Odze said on Saturday, MTI News Agency reported.

    "Goncz's route was not under terrorist threat, ... it was a false alarm," Hungary's Defense Minister Imre Szekeres said in Paris on Saturday.

    Odze's statement on Saturday said the commander of the reconstruction team in the northern Baghlan Province had received warning on Thursday, the second day of Goncz's visit, that an attack was being planned. But after searching the scene, experts found no bomb.

    A foreign ministry statement released late on Friday, after the Hungarian delegation returned home, said Goncz had managed to escape a roadside bomb targeting her thanks to top-rate intelligence.

    Goncz concluded a two-day visit to Afghanistan on Thursday with a visit to Hungarian troops stationing in Pul-i-Khumri in Baghlan Province and had to fly in to Baghlan by helicopter from Mazar-i-Sharif, after the warning came that she had been targeted for an attack.

    Goncz eventually returned safely to Mazar-i-Sharif by car afterher helicopter broke down. ¡¡
