ROME, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Christian Chivu's transfer
from AS Roma to Inter Milan fell through on Wednesday night when the Italian
Serie A champs refused to match Real Madrid's 18-million-euro offer for the
Romanian defender.
Chivu now looks set to play out his contract with
Roma and move elsewhere on a free transfer at the end of next season, the local
media reported.
The 26-year-old snubbed Real Madrid's recent bid to
sign him because the Spanish giants did not satisfy his wage demands.
Chivu, who had previously agreed personal terms with
Inter, also declined Roma's offer to extend his contract beyond next summer, the
reports said.
Roma had already signed Brazilian central defender
Juan from Bayer Leverkusen to replace Chivu.
In other transfer news, Italy striker Antonio Di
Natale has extended his contract with Udinese until 2012.
The 29-year-old has 10 Azzurri caps and has scored
two international goals.
