NEW YORK, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton's second
book "Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World," talking about the power of
charity, will go on sale on Sept. 4, the publisher announced on Tuesday.
"I've done my best in this book to demonstrate what I've seen firsthand
through my foundation's work in Africa and around the world," Clinton said in a
statement.
Looking at the charitable work of individuals and nongovernmental
organizations "has proven to me that almost everyone -- regardless of income,
available time, age and skills -- can do something useful for others and, in the
process, strengthen the fabric of our shared humanity," he said.
Clinton, who finished his two terms as U.S. president in 2000, has been
devoted to building up his charitable Clinton Foundation, which focuses on
anti-AIDS and anti-global warming efforts.
He will go on a nationwide tour to promote the book and will narrate an
audio version.
"GIVING" goes on sale on Sept. 4, with a first print run of 750,000 copies,
said Knopf, a division of Random House.
Clinton plans to donate the proceeds of the book to charities and nonprofit
organizations, the Knopf Publishing Group said.
Clinton's first book, "My Life," which was published in 2004, has sold more
than 2 million copies in the United States. The former U.S. president is said to
have been paid 10 million to 12 million dollars to write the autobiography.
