Pakistan: Vast areas of radical mosque
cleared
ISLAMABAD, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Vast areas of a defiant
mosque in the Pakistani capital were cleared Tuesday after major operation,
military said.
Militants are now holed up in the basement of the Lal

20 militants killed in operation in Pakistani capital
ISLAMABAD, July 10 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 militants were killed Tuesday during the military's major operation on a radical mosque in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, the military said.
Three soldiers of the elite special forces were killed and nine others wounded in the "Operation Silence" following failure of talks for militants in the Lal Masjid mosque to surrender, according to the military. Full story
Pakistani gov't sends delegation to persuade Lal Masjid militants
to surrender
ISLAMABAD, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani government
Monday sent a 13-member delegation to Lal Masjid mosque in a bid to resolve
peacefully the standoff between the government and militants, a Pakistani TV
channel DAWN NEWS reported.
Headed by President of Pakistan Muslim League (PML)
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the delegation consists of six officials and seven

Children run for life from radical
mosque in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Some 20 children escaped
from the compound of a radical mosque in the Pakistani capital Tuesday during
firing between the militants in the mosque and security forces, the military
said.
"Twenty children have managed to escape during the
fire. An intense engagement is going on with the militants," said military

Lal Masjid deputy chief agrees to hold
talks with religious scholars
ISLAMABAD, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Deputy chief of
hard-line Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, Abdur Rashid Ghazi has expressed his
agreement on holding talks with a panel of ulema, or religious scholars, private
Geo TV reported Monday.
Abdur Rashid Ghazi in the besieged Lal Masjid
compound contacted some religious scholars Monday and proposed names of seven
people on whom he has trust on, Geo said. Full story
Musharraf OKs final operation against Lal Masjid
militants
ISLAMABAD, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Pervez
Musharraf gave the go ahead decision for the final operation against defiant Lal
Masjid militants on Sunday night, a private TV channel DAWN NEWS reported

The decision was made at a top-level meeting, DAWN
