BERLIN, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A German national is missing in Afghanistan and may have been kidnapped, the German government said on Wednesday.
German foreign ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger declined to give details about the man who went missing on June 28, but said that he was not a German peacekeeper, a journalist or an aid worker.
The German foreign ministry has already set up a crisis team to look into the case, Jaeger said.
Germany now has about 3,000 soldiers stationed in Afghanistan under the command of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Most are in the relatively stable north.
Many Germans have reservations about the Afghan mission, which they fear could trigger terrorist attacks in Germany.
