BEIJING, July 4 -- In Pakistan, security forces have clashed with Islamic students outside a mosque in Islamabad. Guns were fired, killing nine people including students and a soldier.

The trouble broke out after students from the Lal Masjid mosque rushed towards a nearby police checkpoint Tuesday. Police fired tear gas as the students retreated.

Some of them had gas masks and several were seen with gasoline-filled bottles and Molotov cocktails. About a dozen were armed with guns.

About 100 people have been hospitalized suffering from the effects of tear gas or with bullet wounds. Security near the mosque has been stepped up.
