BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese carmaker Chery
and U.S. Chrysler will sign a strategic cooperative agreement, according to a
press release issued after Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan met with Chrysler
Chief Executive Tom LaSorda on Tuesday.
LaSorda is in Beijing to attend the
signing ceremony of the agreement, for which no further information is
available.
Chery, based in east China's Anhui Province, is the
flagship of Chinese indigenous brands and became China's seventh largest
automaker and fourth largest producer of sedans in 2006.
Zeng hoped Chrysler and its Chinese partner will
jointly explore the markets at home and abroad so as to achieve win-win and
mutual beneficial results.
China has produced and sold more than 7 million
automobiles and become world's second biggest automobile market, said Zeng.
Under years of efforts, China has made much progress
in carmaking, research and development, industrial management and cost control,
Zeng added.
