RIO DE JANEIRO, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Two days before
Brazil's U-20 national team's debut in the World Cup, Lucas, who plays for
England's Liverpool, was replaced on Thursday for Marcone, of the Brazilian team
Bahia.
According to the website of the Brazilian Football
Confederation (CBF), the midfielder got injured, which prompted the replacement.
Lucas was the team's leader when it won the South American U-20 Championship
title in Paraguay, in Jan.
The negotiations for his transfer to Liverpool were
accomplished in May, but he played for his former club Gremio up to the
Libertadores Cup final, won by Argentina's Boca Juniors on June 20.
Marcone is 19 years old and, since junior divisions,
he has been playing for Brazil's traditional club Bahia, which currently
disputes the Brazilian League's Serie C.
On Saturday June 30, Brazil will face Poland in its
first game at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be held in Canada. The other players
in the roster are: Cassio (Gremio), Eduardo (Corinthians),Luizao (Cruzeiro),
David Luiz (Benfica), Roberto (Atletico Paranaense), Marcelo (Real Madrid),
William (Corinthians), Jo (CSKA), Renato Augusto (Flamengo), Alexandre Pato
(Internacional),Muriel (Internaional), Amaral (Palmeiras), Davis (Palmeiras),
Edson (Figueirense), Carlo (Coritiba), Ji Parana (Internacional), Carlos Eduardo
(Gremio), Luiz Adriano (Shakhtar Donetsk), Leandro Lima (So Caetano) and Felipe
(Santos).
