BEIJING, June 24 -- Chinese mainland actress
Vicky Zhao won the Media Award for the most popular actress during the ongoing
10th Shanghai International Film Festival, scheduled from June 16 to 24.
Vicky Zhao won the award for her breakthrough
performance as a taxi driver in "The Longest Night in Shanghai." The nationally
projected film was hailed for its potential at the box office.
The 31-year-old actress missed the awards ceremony on
Friday as she is shooting a new film "The War of the Red Cliff", directed by
John Woo. She expressed her thanks for the honor over the phone.
The most popular actor award went to 47-year-old
Taiwan actor Winston Chao, for his portrayal of Sun Yat-sen in a revolutionary's
love story.
The Media Award held by CCTV-6, the China Central
Television's movie channel, focuses on the development of Chinese films.
