Poland bans poultry imports from Czech

    WARSAW, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Polish veterinary department has announced a ban on live poultry imports from Czech in the wake of bird flue outbreak in Pardubicky Kraj province in this country.

    Live poultry imports from the Czech Republic will be banned at all border crossings in the southern Polish Dolnoslaskie province until June 30, Poland's provincial veterinary inspector in WroclawGrzegorz Wall said on Friday.

    The ban can be prolonged should the need arise, Wall was quoted as saying by the Polish PAP news agency.

    The H5N1 bird flue virus was detected on a farm in Tisova where about 1,800 turkeys died, and another 6,000 birds will be killed.
