JERUSALEM, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Tsinghua University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, has published about one million abstracts of scientific and academic works in the Israeli website Shvoong.com for worldwide readers.

Based on an agreement between Tsinghua University and the multi-lingual (in 34 languages) Israeli abstracts and summaries website Shvoong.com, Tsinghua submitted all the abstracts to appear on the website's Chinese language portal.

The abstracts cover the subjects including Chinese medicine, pharmacy, taxes, finance, tourism, history, and literature. All the abstracts are now in Chinese but can be translated to many other languages by website users who are fluent in Chinese language.

The connection with Tsinghua was made by Avner Avrahami, Shvoong's founder, and Eyal Rivlin, Shvoong's CEO, with the help of some Chinese contacts during a visit to China in January of 2006.

"Shvoong.com is very interested in Chinese content and puts a lot of effort into creating relationships with additional academic institutions in China," Avrahami told Xinhua.

"Today, the most important thing in the internet business, especially in Web 2.0, is site traffic. When you have a lot of quality content, you can generate a lot of traffic to the website," he said in an e-mail interview with Xinhua.

"Our experience with Tsinghua showed us that China is a terrific source for such quality content and therefore acquiring this content will increase our traffic," he said.

"Additionally," he said, "we are aware that many people from western countries are interested in China and its culture so when Chinese content is translated to the other languages on Shvoong it will again lead to an increase in our traffic."
