KABUL, June 17 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bombing killed
three soldiers of the U.S.-led coalition forces and an Afghan interpreter in
Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan on Sunday afternoon, a coalition
statement said.
The casualties occurred at around 1:30 p.m. (0900
GMT) when a roadside bomb exploded near a coalition vehicle, the statement said.
The names and nationalities of the killed coalition
personnel are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, but the
majority of coalition soldiers operating in this country are Americans.
The brief statement did not give any other
information.
Afghanistan has suffered more rampant violence and
insurgency over the past few weeks. A bombing blast killed 35 people, most of
whom were police officers, and injured 35 others in Kabul on Sunday morning.
A coalition soldier was killed by militants in
southern Afghanistan on Saturday, while another one was killed on Friday morning
in eastern Afghanistan.
About 13,000 coalition forces are being deployed in
Afghanistan to hunt down militants and keep security.
Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 2,100 persons, among whom were more than 80 international soldiers, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
