Weather vane shows trends of TV industry

    BEIJING, June 15 -- Entitled as "weather vane" by trade insiders, this year's Magnolia Forum gathers more than 60 global industry experts and serves as a platform for exchanges on topics such as new media, documentary filmmaking animation and television technology.

    Applying the principles of "adopting a global perspective and sharing insider experiences" and "offering a beacon to next year's television industry" the forum is held at Shanghai International Media Centre and Shanghai New International Expo Center from June 11th to June 15th.

    As one of the most distinguished events of this year's festival, it is divided into three parts-online discussions, summit meetings and insider discussions.

¡¡¡¡Interaction

    Representatives from different groups of the industry-television stations, TV program producers, internet service providers, ad-agencies-are invited to address the controversial and important topics in the industry.

    The most outstanding example is two online discussions wide open to the public before the official opening of the festival. During the first discussion, Tian Ming, an official of Shanghai Media Group and Chen Hanze senior official of entertainment portal MegaJoy.com, shared different opinions on the changing role of media.

    During the second discussion, Cheng Liang, Assistant to the President of Shanghai Media Group¢Ÿ discussed the competition and cooperation between the traditional and new media with Hou Xiaoqiang¢Ÿ Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Sina.com.

    Meanwhile, all the five themed discussions held during the forum are broadcast on the Internet and equally divided into keynote speeches and group discussions.

    Foresight

    A main focus for discussion on the forum is how to make better use of the media in Beijing Olympics and World Expo 2010 and boost media values as well as achieve commercial success.

    Aris Nikolakis, former manager of the Main Press Center of Athens 2004 and Masaaki Tsubaki, director of NHK Aichi Expo News shared their experiences in holding big events at Tuesday's discussion.

    Aris Nikolakis suggested that a good media promotion plan.
