Special report: Internal situation in Palestine 

    RAMALLAH, June 14 (Xinhua) - The executive committee of the Palestinian Liberation organization (PLO) recommended President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday to brake up the coalition government and declare emergency.

    Abbas' media advisor Nabil Amr told reporters in Ramallah that the president was studying the recommendation and will take his decision as soon as possible.

    Amr made the remarks after Abbas' meeting with the PLO executive committee and his Fatah movement's central committee.

    The meeting was held to assess the situation in the Gaza Strip where Hamas faction, which leads the unity government, was seizing security compounds of pro-Abbas forces.

    The unity government, comprising Fatah, was formed in accordance with a power-sharing deal reached between the two factions after talks in Saudi Arabia's Mecca in February.

    Hamas accuses Fatah of being unwilling to achieve the political partnership as Mecca agreement called for.

    In response to PLO executive committee's Thursday recommendations, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri expressed the movement's rejection, saying "the PLO has no legitimacy to take such decisions."

    Hamas movement and the government it leads were the lawful sides since they came to power through fair elections, stressed the spokesman.
