Special report:
Internal situation in
Palestine
GAZA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Hamas militants Thursday
sieged a Fatah security base in Gaza City and captured it later as the latest
act to grip the Gaza Strip, pan-Arab satellite television al-Jazeera reported.
The factional clashes in the Gaza Strip is running
high and approaching a civil was as more and more Fatah posts, including the
most important Fatah security command headquarters, in Gaza have fallen into
Hamas.
However, Fatah dismissed the reports, insisting that
the security headquarters is still in their hand.
But if Fatah did lose its security headquarters in
Gaza, it is undoubtedly a heavy blow on Fatah.
In the face of the split possibility on the
Palestinian territories, where will be divided into two parts with
Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and Fatah-dominated Western Bank, Palestinian
President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah is expected to meet Hamas Prime minister Ismail
Haneya later in the day to discuss the situation.
But sources close to Abbas said on condition of
anonymity that Abbas is seriously mulling the withdrawal from the Hamas-led
unity government if the clashes continued.
The infighting between main rival
Fatah and Hamas movements has claimed at least 63 Palestinian lives
as it entered the fifth day.
