BEIJING, June 12 -- Park Chae-rim will soon become the first ever South Korean performer to compete for a top award at China's oldest television festival.
The actress, who is widely known in China by her stage name Chae Rim, has been nominated for the Best Actress in the TV Series at the 13th Shanghai Television Festival, opening on June 11.
Chae Rim is nominated for her performance in "Dalja's Spring."
She will be competing with another four popular Chinese actresses - Rene Liu for "New Age of Marriage," Zheng Zhenyao for "Red Streamer," Chen Xiaoyi for "Remarriage of a Police Woman," and Sun Li for "Shanghai Bund."
Despite the fact that South Korean TV dramas enjoy a large fan base in China, it's the first time for its performers to enter the competition, according to Shanghai Youth Daily.
The Best Actor award will be given to one of five Chinese candidates.
The five-day festival has drawn television and film productions from 39 countries and regions, among which Britain's "Born Equal," Russia's "Franz and Polina," Italy's "Giovanni Falcone the Judge," France's "Lady Chatterley and the Man of Wood," and Germany's "March of Millions" will compete for the Best TV Film award.
South Korea's extremely popular drama "Princess Hours" also entered the competition for the Jury's Special Award for Asian TV Series.
For TV and film buffs in Shanghai, the festival will be one of two attractions this coming June. The other is the 10th Shanghai International Film Festival, set to raise its curtain on June 16.
