RIO DE JANEIRO, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian
Football Confederation (CBF) said Monday that it got a statement from Spain's
club Real Madrid saying striker Robinho was not allowed to join the national
team on Tuesday, when practice for the Copa America is scheduled to start.
According to CBF, Real Madrid argued that the team is
playing for their 30th title in the Spanish League, which is in its last round
of the 2006-2007 season.
On Sunday June 17, they will have to beat Mallorca at
Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in order to ensure the title.
The club only agreed to let Robinho leave for Brazil
on Monday June 18. The same situation applied to wingback Marcelo, who was
drafted to practice with Brazil's U20 team for the FIFA U20 World Cup, to be
held in Canada.
CBF stated it will not agree with the players'
participation in Real Madrid's games this week, and will try to prevent at least
Robinho from playing.
According to FIFA's rules, the Spanish club will lose
three points in the championship if it drafts the players without the consent of
their home country's confederation.
Brazil's head coach Dunga has been facing problems to
fill in the complete roster for the 2007 Copa America, which will take place in
Venezuela.
Midfielders/strikers Ronaldinho (Barcelona) and Kaka
(Milan) asked to be dismissed from the tournament, arguing they were "tired", as
they had not had a vacation since 2004. Left-winger ZeRoberto, who currently
plays for Brazilian club Santos, recently announced his retirement from the
national team.
Additionally, Dunga could not rely on defender Lucio
(Bayern Munich), goalkeeper Julio Cesar (Internazionale) and striker Adriano
(Internazionale) because they all are recovering from injuries.
The team will meet on Tuesday in the municipality of
Teresopolis, in Rio de Janeiro state, where CBF keeps its training center.
