KABUL, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mistakenly killed three Afghan civilians and injured two others in the eastern Kunar province on Monday, an ISAF statement said.

    A vehicle, carrying a number of passengers, failed to stop at a traffic-control point despite being directed to halt by ISAF personnel, the statement said.

    ISAF soldiers opened fire toward the vehicle and caused the casualties, it added.

    The soldiers were conducting meetings with local officials when the incident occurred, according to the statement.

    An investigation into the incident is being conducted by ISAF together with Afghan police and local leaders.

    ISAF has mistakenly killed Afghan civilians in vehicles from time to time, who failed to stop as ISAF soldiers had demanded and were suspected of being suicide car bombers.
