STOCKHOLM, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu
Jintao met here on Saturday with Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf to discuss the
development of bilateral relations.
This is the first state visit to Sweden by a Chinese
head of state since the two countries established diplomatic ties 57 years ago.
Before the meeting, Hu attended a welcoming ceremony
by the king.
During his visit, Hu is also expected to meet other
Swedish officials and the two sides will sign a number of cooperation documents.
The Chinese president arrived in the Swedish capital
Friday evening after attending an outreach session of the Group of Eight leading
industrialized nations in Heiligendamm, northern Germany.
Hu is scheduled to conclude his visit on Sunday.

Chinese president arrives in Stockholm
for state visit
STOCKHOLM, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President
Hu Jintao arrived in the Swedish capital of Stockholm on Friday for a state
visit aimed at promoting cooperation between China and Sweden.
President Hu flew in from the northern German city of
Rostock after attending the outreach session of the Group of Eight (G8) summit

King Carl XVI Gustaf, Chinese President Hu Jintao is paying a state visit to
Sweden from June 8-10. Following is a backgrounder of China-Sweden relations.
Though they lie on eastern tip of Asia and the western tip
of Europe respectively, China and Sweden enjoy a long-lasting friendship. More
than 200 years ago, the Swedish merchant ship "Gotheborg" visited China and
brought Chinese silk, porcelain and other goods back to Sweden, which became
