LOS ANGELES, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Hollywood socialite
Paris Hilton is scheduled to be back in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday as
prosecutors were angry with the jail authorities' decision to release her
earlier and demanded her returning behind bars.
Hilton's release on Thursday morning has sparked a
public outcry, with hundreds of people telephoning, e-mailing and faxing local
officials and prosecutors, calling her three-week-early departure from jail a
case of preferential treatment for a Hollywood celebrity.
The judge who sentenced Hilton ordered her back into
court to consider whether the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department acted
improperly by allowing her to serve the rest of her sentence at home while
wearing an ankle monitor.
Sheriff Lee Baca, whose department runs the county's
jail system, said the 26-year-old hotel chain heiress was released because of "a
medical issue."
According to a spokesman of the sheriff's department,
the decision to release Hilton was made after "extensive consultation" with
medical personnel.
Hilton was sentenced last month to 45 days in jail
for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. The
judge specifically ordered that Hilton not be allowed any work release,
furloughs, access to an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of
jail.
But Hilton was released from the jail Thursday
morning, only after about 72 hours of incarceration, and ordered to remain
inside her Hollywood Hills home and wear an electronic monitoring
bracelet.
