G8 leaders start outreach session with African countries

Special Report: President Hu attends outreach session of G8 Summit, visits Sweden

    HEILIGENDAMM, Germany, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations on Friday morning started their outreach session with African countries at the German Balticresort of Heiligendamm.

    African leaders to the so-called Africa outreach are from Algeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa.

    Chairman of the Commission of the African Union, Alpha Oumar Konare, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon are also present at the meeting.

    Later in the day, the G8 leaders will have an outreach session with their counterparts from five major developing countries -- Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa.

    The three-day G8 annual meeting is expected to conclude on Friday afternoon.
