BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The newly
unveiled logo of the London 2012 Olympics has aroused widespread public
criticism, but there was more bad news for the organizers.
An animated footage promoting the
Games on their website could trigger epileptic fits, UK media reported
on Wednesday.
A London 2012 spokeswoman said the concerns
surrounded a four-second piece of animation showing a diver plunging into a
pool, creating a multi-coloured ripple effect on the water.
The footage has been taken off the organizers' website.
Professor Graham Harding, an expert in clinical
neuro-physiology who developed a test to measure photo-sensitivity levels in
animated TV material, blasted the animation saying it did not comply with
regulatory standards.
People have reported experiencing seizures while watching
the advert to the BBC and the charity Epilepsy Action.
The jagged emblem, based on the date 2012, was
unveiled on Monday by Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London 2012 organizing
committee.
An online petition calling for it to be scrapped has
more than 17,000 signatures and thousands have ridiculed the design.
