QUITO, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Argentine goalkeeper Gaston
Sessa has made an agreement to move from current soccer club Argentina's Velez
Sarsfield to Barcelona, from the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, the Ecuador
Football Federation said on Monday.
Sessa, 34, met with Galo Roggiero, president of
Barcelona, known as los toreros (the bullfighters), during Roggiero's visit to
Argentina, according to Barcelona sources.
Sessa, known as El Gato (the cat), began his career
with La Plata team Estudiantes, and has played for Rosario Central, River Plate,
Racing Club, and since 2004, for Velez. Sessa and Roggiero are expected to
arrive in Ecuador on Wednesday.
In recent months, Barcelona, rated Ecuador's top club
by the South American Football Federation, has failed to win any significant
trophies, and is experiencing a footballing and managerial crisis.
Paraguayan Mario Jacquet, who left Barcelona in
December, returned on Monday as the club's third manager this year. Ecuador's
sporting press says the club may seek to sign Paraguayan Daniel Ferreira and
Argentine winger Franco Cangele.
