HAVANA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Cuba's 0.05 percent rate for AIDS infection
among the age group of 15-24 is the lowest in all the American countries and one
of the lowest worldwide, reported the Sunday edition of Cuba's Juvented Rebelde
newspaper.
The statistics were announced by Carlos Lage Davila, vice president of the
Council of State, during a meeting with municipal leaders.
He also announced that Cuba had not reported a single case of dengue fever,
vowing to pursue a sustainable fight against the Aedes Aegypti mosquito who
spread the disease.
Although Cuba provides an appropriate health care system and free medical
treatment for all its citizens, it faces problems related to infrastructure and
the commercialization of food, he admitted.
