BANGKOK, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Suspected insurgents
launched a spade of attacks in Thailand's southern province of Narathiwat from
Saturday night to early Sunday, killing a teacher and a villager and injuring
three officials, local media reported.
In Rusoh district, a soldier was injured when the
insurgents detonated a bomb buried on village road at around 7:00 a.m. (0000
GMT) Sunday.
In Joh Ai Rong district, insurgents detonated a bomb
and damaged two police patrol cars at 9:10 p.m. (1410 GMT) Saturday. Ten minutes
later, two men on a motorcycle hurled a Molotov cocktail against a villager's
house. The fire was quickly put out, causing little damage.
In nearby Sungai Padi district, police were ambushed
by a group of insurgents and two sides exchanged gunfire for about five minutes
on Saturday night. A villager and a teacher were killed and two policemen were
injured during the attacks.
Narathiwat and its neighboring provinces of Yala and Pattani have been hit by insurgents on an almost daily basis and nearly 2,200 persons have died in over three years of violence.
