LIMA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Peru president Alan Garcia Thursday rejected the
decision of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) to ban
official international soccer games above 2,500 over sea lever.
"It is a European measure, ethnic-centered, it is an insult. Those who made
the decision see the world as if it were their own country. That kind of ideas
have hurt the world," Garcia told the press.
He also criticized FIFA's president Joseph Blatter born in Switzerland:
"Just because Blatter cannot play at over 2,500 meters altitude the games have
to be prohibited."
Garcia said that if the reason to veto international soccer games at high
altitudes is health matters then sports competitions held in cities where high
and low temperatures prevail should also be prohibited.
Garcia said he agreed with his counterparts of other South American
countries affected by the decision such as Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru
among others, to send a joint protest to the FIFA.
